In a significant move following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, the Intelligence Bureau (IB) has handed over a list of around 5,000 Pakistani nationals living in Delhi to the Delhi Police. The action comes as part of a directive issued by the Centre to ensure the return of these individuals to their home country.
The Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) has shared this list with the Delhi Police’s special branch, which is tasked with verifying the details and ensuring that those named return to Pakistan. The list contains the names of both general Pakistani nationals and Hindu Pakistani nationals holding long-term visas (LTVs) who have been exempted from this order.
Officials confirmed that the list includes the names of individuals residing predominantly in the central and north-eastern districts of Delhi. The authorities have been instructed to act promptly, with senior officials monitoring the situation closely. The Police and the IB are coordinating to gather additional details about these individuals and ensure that they comply with the directive to leave India at the earliest.
In the wake of the terror attack, the Home Ministry issued a directive on Friday to cancel all visas granted to Pakistani nationals, with the exception of medical, diplomatic, and long-term visas (LTVs). This order is set to take effect from April 27, 2025, and existing medical visas will also become invalid by April 29, 2025.
The list of 5,000 Pakistani nationals is divided into two parts: one list with 3,000 names and another with 2,000. While some names appear on both lists, authorities are currently in the process of verifying their residency status, as many individuals may have already left the country. Estimates suggest that approximately 900 Pakistani nationals live near Majnu ka Tila and another 600-700 near the Signature Bridge.
